Mae Jemison was born on October 17, 1956. She currently lives in Decatur, Alabama. She joined NASA’s astronaut corps in 1987. She attended Stanford University in 1977. At the age of 36, she became the first African American woman to go into space. Mae Jemison is a smart and hard-working woman who has shown the world what African American women can achieve.
